What is Hook in2 Hockey?
Hook in2 Hockey is the fun and exciting way to get involved playing the great game of hockey in your local area.
Hook in2 Hockey is Hockey Australia’s national recruitment program and thousands of children from all over the country have already enjoyed an awesome introduction to hockey through the program.
Participants can choose to receive a stick, ball and shin pads or a great t-shirt and bucket hat plus a sensational show bag full of cool hockey goodies!
Parents can register children online to enjoy themselves in a safe community environment.
What does a Hook in2 Hockey session consist of?
A warm up, skill activities, skill games and a modified riles game during the last session (usually involving the parents)
Is Hook in2 Hockey for both boys and girls?
Yes. Programs are run for mixed groups.
Is Hook in2 Hockey safe?
YES! There are a number of things that make Hook in2 Hockey a safe and fun program:
- Activities in the Coaching Pack (session planner) are designed to allow participants to learn the basic skills of the game in a controlled environment
- A special, lighter than normal, hockey ball is used
All participants receive a pair shin guards to wear and keep
- Leaders should not have more than 15 participants in their groups
- Only one person is allowed to tackle another at one time
Junior Development
At Brunswick we encourage junior players to take opportunities for further development. This includes encouraging kids of sufficient ability to trial for representative teams, development programs as well as organising our own in house development programs such as umpire training.
Throughout the season players with the skills necessary will be encouraged to attend trails for the North West Metro Tigers zone representative squads (State Championships), the under 9 and 11 development program, and Vicstix development squads.
During the trails players will be selected for the squads based on the Hockey Victoria selection criteria. The Brunswick Hockey club uses the same selection criteria.
If selected, the player will be required to attend all training sessions and matches. If a player is unable to attend one or more of the training sessions or matches, this will need to be communicated to the program co-ordinator prior to the selection process.
North West Metro Tigers zone squads
The State championships for under 13, 15, and 17 boys and girls is played between the ten Victorian zone teams. The Victorian state sides for each age and gender group are selected from these zone squads. There are no mixed gender teams at the state and representative level. Brunswick Hockey club is part of the North West Metro Tigers zone.
Championship tournament;
Under 13 & 15: 28th June to 3rd July (Second term school holidays) State Hockey Centre
Under 17: 1st to 3rd October State Hockey Centre
